Growing Old – Lock Down Day 29

Today is Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the basis of Christianity proving that he was the son of God. Although I am not a religious person it got me thinking about humanities resurrection when Isolation subsides and, how many are really celebrating today locked away inside away from the usual influences and traditions surrounding this day. Resurrection and its meaning found in a dictionary, has set many questions in motion, with a whole ray of possibilities that only time and history will show the consequences, here are a few definitions I found :

“The act of bringing something that had disappeared or ended back into use or existence” – Will we ourselves bring back that which is becoming for many, our old self back into existence and losing the lessons we are learning during Isolation? Will the establishment try to carry on as normal and expect us to live within what we now consider to be of little value, importance of priority? Of course if this happens it will feel like we have been Gaslighted, going back to “as was” through manipulation, advertising, messaging, television, memes and media to make us feel comfortable again. We all want to feel normal or feel good again, but wanting life back to the way it was before the crisis? We will be left doubting our own sanity and wondering who we are. Another scenario the one I long for, is to bring back into existence, old lost traditions of nurturing and respecting nature and all living things. Understanding the importance of cause and effect and valuing water and food, each other, community, working together for the good of the whole.

“Raising from the dead” – To move or raise to a higher place or position, to lift up, elevate, enhance, exalt, heighten, to raise something is to cause it to rise. Again this raising may be done from within, raised to a higher intellectual or spiritual level by a crisis that has changed our priorities. It causes us to rise, holding onto our new selves and virtues and moves us into a new way of thinking and existing. Outside of us also lies the possibility of course of the raising of authority and power etc.

“Rising from the dead” – Ascension, ascending, advancing, rising tide, uprising, an insurrection, developing, emerging, Increasing in power or influence. Will we succumb to outside power or influence, or will we increase our own power and influence? I feel it is important that we all remain true to ourselves and hold onto our new found ideals whilst working to form our new society and being a part of it. Power lies in numbers, if enough hold on we then out number the external forces. Ascension may also be seen as evolution, mankind has always evolved and nature always evolves for survival.

“Return from the dead” – This I feel is the true awakening, many people were not living a life before but were purely existing and surviving. Unaware of the beauty around, the miracle and complexity of nature and all she provides whilst living in disharmony with our planet. Man made has often proven to be destructive to nature and its inhabitants, plastics which we now see in micro particles in water, salt, and everyday things. These don’t break down and recycle or bring nourishment to living things, it carries on polluting and causing harm to all of natures inhabitants. Many were lost in the life of others such as celebrities, sporting hero’s, soap television, reality TV, fashions etc. they are returning from the dead to their own existence and life, finding within, their own values not outside influences.

“Restoration to life” – Of course this is the hard part, like anything such as restoring a house it can be long, tedious and tiring but with perseverance, effort and creativity, we look back when its finished and take pride in our achievement, it holds true value to us, we have gratitude for it and we see its true beauty, it is an expression of our own individuality. Hopefully we will restore ourselves and society back to that which we value and is beneficial to all.

“Resurrection” comes from the Greek a·naʹsta·sis, which means “raising up” or “standing up again.” A person who is resurrected is raised up from death and restored to life as the person he was before the rising from the dead of a divine or human being who still retains his own personhood, or individuality, though the body may or may not be changed. Again this will depend as to whether we rise to who we were before outside influences, our chore and natural state eg we are not born racist, angry etc. Or will we rise back to the influenced lost souls we may have become living only in survival and existence before this crisis?

While people are celebrating today I wonder if they are pondering on the meaning of resurrection too, and facing introspection. Whatever your religion or lack of it, I hope you stay safe and take precautions to protect yourself and loved ones including taking care of your mental health 💜
